babylonian:

it’s here: the music video for Shelter by A-1 Pictures (Anohana, Your Lie in April, etc)!

this video is been the culmination of over a year of hard work from Porter + the team A-1 + Crunchyroll. i really hope people enjoy it!

Been studying Ufotable’s animation and color techniques. They do a great job with warm and cool colors by oversaturating them, making steel shine blue and sparks glow orange. They also perfected their integration with 3D and particles into their traditional 2D animation. I really admire them and hope my cartoon can be any bit as good as what they’ve done so far!

This show’s style is really inspiring. I love how they made 3D look so much like 2D. This has been my goal for a long time and this is what I want my stuff to look like in the future!

2nd Animation Test:

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about this model. So let me answer some of them:

Q: What software are you using?
A: Maya and Mental Ray.
Q: Are you going to share the rig?
A: Not right now. Maybe in the future.
Q: Does it work with Source Film Maker?
A: This rig was made with a lot of plugins and tools that are exclusive to maya, so unfortunately, it’s not compatible with any other software.
Q: Can you teach me how to rig a character?
A: Start by watching some training courses online. I started with Digital Tutors, some of the lessons are really basic, but it’s enough to get you going. After you learn how to make your own basic rig, you should start studying some more advanced rigs:
www.animationbuffet.blogspot.com
http://www.creativecrash.com/
http://cgjosh.com/2011/08/looney-tunes-ves-submission/
Download it, break it apart and learn how it works.
Q: What plugins are you using?
A: http://www.braverabbit.de/ this guy makes a lot of amazing plugins, I’m using SHAPES and QuadrupedRigger.
http://www.animschool.com/ check out the malcom rig and the AnimSchool Picker, It makes the animation process a lot faster.

Just sharing something that looks awesome

Holy jesus

I realized that my models were horrible. So I decided to redo everything from scratch.

This time I embraced the cartoony style of the show and everything is looking much better.

Here’s my first animation test with the new rig:
