Paint Tool SAI

The interface is more familiar in SAI, and while I like what they’re doing with the shortcuts in Krita, the buttons don’t all fit/work snugly on my Wacom buttons. Krita has had its share of memory explosions (one close to 3GB of RAM) and has all of the promised featured of SAI 2, which is a free upgrade to SAI users and has perspective features, text, and shape tools.

While Krita has more options for brushes, as a vector artist I find myself using the circle pen tool almost exclusively. Plus, the magic wand tool and fill tools aren’t quite… good yet in Krita. SAI has been working fine with those and takes barely any RAM to run in the background.

Until SAI 2 comes out, I’ll be saving my files as PSD and importing them to PS to get my text and other features. When Krita is released on Steam, I’m sure it’ll be the best mobile art app… just not for desktops quite yet.

Easy to build 3D perspective tool. Game over, SAI.

Been working in Krita for about 40 minutes, loving it so much.

  • First off, it has a kickin’ start menu. Comic templates and advanced document settings
  • The brush settings are also really advanced, using curves to make very specific and detailed changes to your brush presets. You can alter specific things like pen tilt to adjust opacity or size. Lots of insane adjustments you can make.
  • Has a built-in text tool and 3D rotation tools built into the free transform tool. Lots of tools, so many tools, awiufawjks
  • Right clicking anywhere brings up a radial color wheel menu and brush presets. Easily edit hue, saturation, and value and change all your settings.
  • Also, has nice layer options, masking, hide/show, lock/unlock, most of the photoshop stuff… and it’s all free… and soon on Steam.

This has been my first impressions and gets an A+ so far. More to come soon!
