Thoughts on the Quick-Fix

taritoons:

Most players really hate the Quick-Fix because it’s Übercharge is not so über compared to that of the other mediguns.
But it’s just *really* useful to be able to get from A to B within a matter of seconds if you are healing a scout, soldier or demo. That way I can be back at the front much faster after respawn.
I am also more of a healer than a charger and switch between patients within seconds in order to keep as many teammates alive as possible. And the Quick-Fix heals faster 40% faster than the normal Medigun which makes it really useful for my playingstyle.

I have a big problem with the Quick-Fix though. Two, to be honest.

  1.  When you loose contact to the player you are healing, you immidiatly loose the speedboost. That means if I am healing a scout and he goes around a sharp corner, I am screwed. It would be great if the speedboost would last a few seconds after the contact broke, so that one can catch up again.
  2. Double jumps. Or depending on his loadout even triple jumps. Poof, there goes your scout. When you are healing a Scout, you should be able to do doublejumps, too.

I have of course no idea how bad this would be for the balance but I bet people would less hate on the Quick-Fix compared to now. Just some ideas, you know?

Long-time Quick-Fix user, first time caller:
I’ve been using the Quick-Fix since it was created and have a Rage-Enducing Quick-Fix with 1881 ubers on it. I often use the ubers to balance damage taken, since I’m healed at 300% as well.

  • To make sure my uber mate doesn’t die while taking heavy fire during my uber, I might use myself as a shield for him to regen back to full for 1 or 2 seconds, then switch back to using him as a shield.
  • Another trick I use is using auto-healing on my target while hovering over other players. This lets me see 2 players’ HPs at once, meaning I can easily switch to whoever needs me more.

Here’s my thoughts on your problems:
  1. I counter this by trying to do “medic parkour” by crouch jumping over hurdles to run /ahead/ of my target. This means I rarely lose my uber buddy.
  2. If your uber partner uses double jumps to get away from you, it means he doesn’t want your heals anyway so screw him. If he really wants the heals, he’ll find a route you can take. Or use the Crossbow to heal them from long distances: if you miss, it only damages the enemy.
